Arguably the most useful thing about him and this DLC is the Volkite weapon he can wield. For example, turning enemy targets into area of effect time bombs makes the base game's Challenge mode quite easy (for the first few waves at least).ProsSigurd is a reasonably strong and quite versatile squad member with a variety of talentsHe can deploy his own turretHis Volkite weapon is great versus massed enemiesCarpeting an area with his mines (talent into them) helps kill enemies quickly or at least slow them downLorewise it's nice to have an Iron Priest to play withConsHis power may trivialise earlier parts of the game's story mode (so crank up the difficulty setting)His turret isn't as strong as the ones Valgard can deploy if you have the turret DLCYou cannot deploy more than one turret at a time even if Valgard has some (and this is probably a good thing); much like the Wolf you can only have one active at a time so summoning another causes the previous one to self destructNeutralThe Las cutter cards are probably better for the PVP mode than the story campaign and challenge modesThe Volkite cards which Valgard can use are okay, although he generally has access to more directly devastating weaponryI couldn't get on with Sigurd's alternative melee weaponry loadout, though your mileage may varyIn summaryThe real value here is in having Sigurd as a squad member. Situationally his weaponry is devastating. If you like playing the challenge mode (and I do) he is highly recommended. The cards that can be obtained from this DLC might be useful but may require a more strategic-timing playstyle than unleashing ALL THE DAKKA. So this DLC is worth picking up as a bundle deal or on offer. Not essential, but nice to have..
